Kidd's Orange Red is a popular late-season Cox-style apple variety. It has an excellent flavour potential, and is therefore a good choice for training in a sunny sheltered spot.
The spring blossom is a particularly attractive feature of this variety - it has a more intense dark pink colour than most apple varieties.
Although primarily an apple for eating fresh, Kidd's Orange Red also produces a high quality sweet juice, with a pleasing thick texture.
Like many Cox-style apples Kidd's Orange Red produces plenty of side-shoots which are ideal for training into different shapes.
It has a reputation as a bit of a shy cropper, but this is unlikely to be an issue if grown as a trained tree.
Fruit size can be on the small size so moderate thinning can be helpful as the fruitlets start to form.
