Albalu

Albalu sour cherries
  • Self-fertility: Self-fertile

Albalu is an acid or culinary cherry, with a strong cherry flavour, and ideal for making cherry jams and pies.

Albalu originates from Iran, where there is a long tradition of using acid cherries.

It ripens in the middle of the culinary cherry season, a few weeks ahead of the well-known Morello cherry.

    Growing and Training

Despite its middle-eastern origins, Albalu is very well-suited to the UK climate.

Albalu is very easy to train as a fan on a trellis or against a wall, and while it does best in full sun, it should still be productive even on a north-facing aspect.
